USA Eventing still won a medal even with a rough start

My life started in Littleton, Colorado in 1987 and ended up in horse country when we moved to Northern Virginia when I was six. It was both the area’s influence and the fact that my mother used to ride western in New Mexico that got me involved in the endless joys of horses. My mom bought me my first and only horse in June 1998 when I was too young to know how blessed and spoiled I was. He was a tall three year old never-been-raced Thoroughbred chestnut gelding. All I knew was I liked to jump, and so my mom looked at him and goes, "he looks like he could do that for you". I grew up with Cobb (originally Cobb House Road but changed it to Curious Cobb) doing minimal training with him. It wasn’t until I moved to a new stable in Nolkesville that I was referred to Lisa Reid. That’s where my love and hobby for eventing started. I couldn’t be happier to have met the great people through Lisa that I have and to be in the nicest group who all love riding together. Shows and cross country schoolings are ten times more exciting when you have a group of friends there to cheer you on and for you to support as well.
Towards the end of 2007, I had to let Cobb go due to financial reasons and to concentrate on the high demands of college. He had the temperament every horse owner would want. He acted like an old draft on the ground but stepped up his game and acted like a well-trained thoroughbred at the competitions, except for the times he dumped me. Other than the fun he had leaving me in the grass a couple times, I had the most joy learning with Cobb the facts and techniques of eventing. Lisa Reid was my instructor for the three or so years I evented. She taught us everything we needed to know through her knowledge and love for the sport. Every drop of sweat and gritting of teeth was worth it when I received the title of Jr. Novice Champion at the ’06 American Eventing Championships in North Carolina. Thanks to her countless days of work with us, my parents support, Cobb’s willingness to please, and my pet peeve to obtain perfection, we were able to experience such an honor!
